BELOW ARE SOME LANDMARKS YOU MAY SEE ON YOUR SUNSET CRUISE
-
- Ocean City Boardwalk
- The 3-mile-long boardwalk is a defining feature of Ocean City, visible from the Atlantic Ocean. Look for its vibrant stretch lined with shops, restaurants, and amusement rides. Key spots include the Ocean City Pier at the southern end, home to amusement rides and arcades, and the iconic Boardwalk Arch near the inlet. The boardwalk buzzes with activity, and its wooden walkway and colorful signage stand out from the water.
- Ocean City Inlet
- Located at the southern tip of Ocean City, the inlet is a bustling waterway connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the bays. The Ocean City Inlet was formed by a hurricane in August 1933. The storm, known as the Chesapeake-Potomac hurricane, created a new channel from Sinepuxent Bay to the Atlantic Ocean. Engineers then made the inlet permanent. You’ll see fishing boats, jet skis, and the stone jetties framing the entrance. The inlet offers views of the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum, a historic building on the boardwalk’s southern end, with its distinctive architecture and maritime exhibits. The inlet’s creation in a 1933 hurricane is a key part of the town’s history.
- Assateague Island
- South of Ocean City, Assateague Island is visible from the Atlantic or near the inlet. This barrier island is famous for its wild ponies, pristine beaches, and marshlands. From the water, you can spot its undeveloped shoreline, sandy dunes, and possibly the ponies roaming near the coast. Other wildlife on the island includes wild turkeys and sitka deer. It’s a stark contrast to Ocean City’s developed landscape and a must-see for nature lovers.
- Trimper’s Rides and Amusement Park
- Located at the southern end of the boardwalk near the inlet, Trimper’s is a historic amusement park with a vintage carousel, roller coasters, and the Haunted House ride, all visible from the water. The park’s colorful lights and ride structures make it a standout, especially at night.
- Jolly Roger at the Pier
- Also on the boardwalk’s southern end, this amusement area features rides like the Ferris Wheel and Slingshot, which are prominent from the ocean. The pier itself extends into the Atlantic, offering a clear view of its bustling activity and vibrant signage.
